ZMM announces OEM USB Digital Audio Input and Output for the SPEAKERS manufacturers, supporting outstanding Multimedia Sound Performance.

This USB board has the size of 5cm x 5cm. It is offered to manufacturers of PC Multimedia SPEAKERS as a component they can purchase and install inside their Speakers to support Digital Audio USB Bus.
Today the Multimedia SPEAKERS manufacturer has an analog signal as input, usually coming from a sound card. Such speakers will have a major problem when Windows�98 and NT 5 will be launched. According to Intel Hardware Design Guide for the year 1998/9, a new USB computer will be launched. This computer will support an audio only on USB, with no sound card mounted inside the PC.

Thus, all Multimedia SPEAKERS manufacturers will face a problem. The customers of the multimedia speaker will demand USB speakers and USB microphones, mainly because their new computer will be sold without sound card and with no extra slot in the PC to mount one.
ZMM offers
ZMM offers a solution to this problem by selling a small PCB, designed as an interface between old analog Speaker technology, the one that the speaker manufacturers have, and the new standard of USB.

ZMM�s small USB digital audio can be used as interface to the new standard USB to feed the old analog speakers. Moreover it also adds the speakers a Microphone/Line input, so that the speakers will present a full solution for the customer: a speaker for audio output and a microphone/Line for input. ZMM�s PCB does not have a power amplifier.

The board is very small, and it is offered in 3 different possible OEM deals:
1. As an extension board : ZMM Part number DA 001 (5cmX5cm)
2. As a PART Kit to be mounted on the PCB of the manufacturer: ZMM Part number: DA 002.
3. As a new PCB sizable or shaped according to the Multimedia SPEAKERS manufacturer�s space. Fitted to meet the unique physical size in the speakers. ZMM Part number: DA 003.



This is the First and Most Versatile USB PC Speaker designed for Windows�98 that also offers compatibility with Windows�95 and Winndow�3. 1 Operating Systems.

The ZMM DA (Digital Audio) designed for speakers, takes full advantage of both the USB and the ZMM Smart Digital Audio technologies. The product is designed to support the Windows�98 operating system, which is scheduled for marketing by the second half of 1998, as well as current PCs, Macintoshes, Workstations, game players and CE operating system products that already support USB.

Speakers with ZMM DA model generate a 3D sound experience without the need to use extra surround speakers. Even when the ZMM DA speakers are located relatively close to the PC, the Incredible Sound creates a realistic, extra-wide sound image in which music appears to come from all corners of the room.

Thanks to the Hot Plug and Play concept of the USB system, the speakers just have to be plugged in. The USB makes peripherals dynamically attachable, which means that any USB-compatible devices are detected and configured automatically on connection. There is no longer any need for complicated manual installation and setting of drivers and switches. The user may connect or disconnect the speaker to the USB BUS when the PC is on, without any problem. The Hot Plug and Play will recognize the speaker and load the drivers in the kernel automatically.

A unique combination of instant installation and superb digital sound quality makes the ZMM DA the ideal audio solutions for all kinds of Multimedia applications including games, education information and presentation programs.

Replacing the traditional sound card, which has to be installed inside the PC,
the ZMM DA receives a digital signal from the PC�s USB port. This digital signal is then converted into (analog) sound output at the latest possible stage - in the loudspeaker itself. This enables a high signal-to-noise ratio of 98dB to be achieved - comparable to that of a good CD players. Sampling rates of up to 55kHz are supported, compared with the 44kHz of an audio CD.

The ZMM DA is Audibly Superior to conventional PC audio equipment. This superiority was achieved through ZMM AD Smart Digital Amplifier Technology.

The ZMM DA also features controls for power on/off, dynamic bass boost and
Volume up / down. The controls are implemented according to the USB HID
(Human interface device) specification, enabling the user to control the speakers either from the button controls on the system or from the Smart Control GUI on the computer monitor. Through the smart implementation, the computer always knows the settings.

Energy Saving
The speakers with ZMM DA are energy saving, they have automatic standby detection and are automatically switched off when the PC is switched off. The
connections provided are USB, output connector to stereo analog input (Microphone or Line in) and stereo analog output to feed the power amplifier of the speakers.

No matter how good they are, traditional (analog) loudspeaker designs introduce errors into the final sound product due to their design and physical characteristics.
ZMM DA introduces digital technology into loudspeakers developing the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) which anticipates the specific amplitude characteristics, phase and crossover errors of the speaker system, and compensates for them, producing higher sound quality.

The technological advantages behind ZMM DA mean that, for the first time, speakers can anticipate and compensate for the sort of errors introduced by loudspeakers. The result is a sound closer to the original source than can be achieved with analog speakers.
